Community content policy.

Skinparency publishes reviews written by real people. These are the rules for what can be posted, how to report something, and what we do about it.

What this covers

This policy applies to everything users post: written reviews, micro-review ratings, product flags, photos, and messages sent through our forms. It sits alongside our terms of use and privacy notice. Breaking it can mean the content is removed and the account suspended.

What we want

  • Your own first-hand experience with a product you've actually used.
  • How it felt, wore, layered, or reacted on your skin — including negative experiences.
  • Factual observations about packaging, size, price paid, or the ingredient list.
  • Disagreement with our verdicts. Say so; we publish criticism of our own ratings.

What's not allowed

Illegal content

Anything unlawful under UK law, including threats, incitement to violence, terrorist content, child sexual abuse material, harassment or stalking, hate speech targeting a protected characteristic, and content that helps or encourages self-harm or suicide. This is removed on sight and the account is banned.

Content harmful to children

Skinparency is for users aged 16 and over. Pornographic content, and content promoting self-harm, eating disorders, or dangerous 'skincare' practices, is not permitted anywhere on the service.

Abuse and harassment

Personal attacks, slurs, pile-ons, or abuse aimed at other users, brand employees, or our team.

Fake, paid or incentivised reviews

Reviews written for payment, free product, affiliate gain, or by a brand or its agency about its own or a competitor's product. Undisclosed commercial interest is prohibited under UK consumer protection law and gets the account removed.

Medical claims

Statements that a product treats, cures or prevents a condition — including acne, eczema, rosacea, or skin cancer. Describing what happened to your skin is fine; prescribing to others is not.

Personal data

Anyone's contact details, address, workplace, or photos of identifiable people who haven't consented. Don't post your own contact details either.

Spam, off-topic and copied text

Advertising, referral links, repetition, content about a different product, or text and images copied from someone else.

How to report content

Every published review has a Report control underneath it. Choose a reason — spam or advertising, offensive or abusive, not about this product, fake or incentivised, contains personal info, or something else — and add detail if it helps. You need to be signed in so we can follow up and prevent abuse of the reporting tool.

Not signed in, or reporting something that isn't a review? Use the corrections form or email report@skinparency.com. Brands can also use the brand route. . That address is monitored: mail sent to it is forwarded to the inbox our moderation team reads every working day.

What happens after a report

  • Every report lands in a moderation queue that a human reviews.
  • Illegal content and content harmful to children is actioned as quickly as we can, and we aim to act within 24 hours of becoming aware of it.
  • Other reports are usually decided within 5 working days.
  • Outcomes are: leave up, remove, edit for personal data, or remove plus suspend the account. Repeat or serious breaches mean a permanent ban.
  • We may remove content proactively when we spot it, without waiting for a report.
  • We keep a record of reports and decisions so we can show how the service is moderated.

Appeals and right of reply

If your content was removed or your account restricted and you think we got it wrong, email appeals@skinparency.com within 30 days. A different person to the one who made the original decision reviews it, and we reply with the outcome and the reason. If we were wrong, we restore the content.

If you reported something and disagree with the outcome, reply to our decision email and we'll take a second look. Brands disputing a review or a verdict have a published right of reply.

Keeping the service safe

Reviews are tied to a signed-in account, which discourages throwaway abuse. Ratings only publish as a community verdict once several independent people have contributed, which limits the damage a single bad-faith account can do. We don't offer private messaging between users, and we don't host user profiles that other users can browse — two of the highest-risk surfaces on a user-generated content service simply don't exist here.

Accounts are for people aged 16 and over. If you believe a user is under 16, report the account to report@skinparency.com and we'll close it and delete the content.
