Privacy notice.

Plain English: what we store about you, why, and how to get it back or get rid of it.

Who we are

Skinparency is an independent skincare rating service. For data-protection purposes we are the controller of the personal data described here. Questions, requests or complaints: privacy@skinparency.com.

What we collect

  • Account data — email address and sign-in identifiers, handled by our authentication provider. We never see your password.
  • Profile data you choose to add — display name and, optionally, your Fitzpatrick skin tone.
  • Contributions — products you save, mark as tried, rate on our micro-review axes, flag, or write reviews about, plus contribution points.
  • Tool inputs — ingredient lists or pack photos you paste or upload for checking. Photos are used to verify ingredient lists.
  • Technical data — basic server logs and aggregate usage statistics needed to run and secure the site.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

  • Contract — running your account, your saved and tried lists, and showing your own ratings back to you.
  • Legitimate interests — aggregating anonymous community counts, preventing abuse, and improving our ratings. Individual rows are never shown to other users; only aggregate counts are.
  • Explicit consent — optional skin tone (sensitive data under UK/EU GDPR Article 9), marketing or early-access emails, and any optional cookie set beyond what the site needs to function. You can withdraw consent at any time, and doing so does not affect anything else in your account.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data and we do not run advertising trackers. We use processors to host the site and database, send email, and (for AI-assisted ingredient parsing) process product text. Retailer links may pass a partner identifier to the retailer so a purchase can be attributed to us — see our disclosures. Data may be processed outside the UK/EEA under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

Account and contribution data are kept while your account is open. If you delete your account, we erase your profile, ratings, flags, reviews, lists and points. Aggregate counts that can no longer identify you may remain. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export, restrict, object to, or delete your data. The fastest route is self-service on your account page, which offers a one-click JSON export and permanent deletion. You can also email privacy@skinparency.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled a request, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office or your local supervisory authority.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and browser local storage that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising cookies. If we ever add optional analytics, we'll ask first.

Children

Skinparency isn't intended for children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes

We'll update this page when our processing changes and move the "last updated" date. For material changes affecting your rights, we'll tell you in the app or by email.
