Is Sodium Hyaluronate safe during pregnancy?

Not on standard avoid lists. It is not on the standard pregnancy avoid lists, and it is one of the ingredients most often kept in a routine.

  • Informational, not medical advice
  • Sourced from published guidance

The short answer

Not on standard pregnancy avoid lists.

On labels you may see it as: hyaluronic acid, HA.

Context

What Sodium Hyaluronate does

HA holds many times its weight in water. On skin it draws moisture into the outer layers, which visibly plumps fine dehydration lines within minutes.

The effect is temporary and topical. It does not repair the barrier the way lipids do, and it does not change pigmentation, acne or wrinkles.

Typical use on shelf: 0.1%–2% in serums and gels; higher is not better and gets sticky..

Watch-outs

What to keep in mind

  • In very dry air, a humectant with nothing sealed on top can pull water out of skin. Always follow with a moisturiser.
  • Applying to damp skin works better than to bone-dry skin.

Next step

Check your whole routine, not one ingredient

One ingredient rarely decides anything. Paste the full list from each product you use into the pregnancy ingredient checker and take the flags to your clinician. The full write-up on Sodium Hyaluronate — what it does, irritation, pore-clogging risk — is on the Sodium Hyaluronate explainer.
